The Young Bucks vs. FTR, when talking about tag team wrestling, these teams have been shining bright recently by putting on some of the best matches I've seen in a long time. As for tag team wrestling, it’s declining; in most promotions, it hasn’t been as respectable as it used to be around the late 90s and into the 2000s. AEW is slowly getting more into the whole tag team division, needing a revival, and, as of recently, has shown off some incredible matches. The Young Bucks, a team of two wrestling veterans who are blood-related brothers, Matt and Nick Jackson, are the best tag team in all wrestling today. Many can argue that many will bring in the Uso brothers, the New Day, and many more, but the reality is that the Young Bucks are the tag team that made the most significant impact in the world for tag team wrestling. Dominating Japan for years and destroying team after team on Ring of Honor and TNA, the Young Bucks, just because they aren't on WWE, doesn't mean they aren't the most remarkable tag team out now. Now, FTR is an up-and-coming team that has been putting out some great matches; both wrestlers were part of WWE and were released but ultimately found a home in AEW.
Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood are both the men who created FTR, whose only goal in AEW is to become the most dominant tag team in the division, but what is standing in their way is the Young Bucks. This finally takes us to their match at AEW Dynamite. The ranked one and two seed in the tag team division finally duking it out for the opportunity to be called tag team champions. The Young Bucks wanted to protect the throne, and newcomers wished to slay the kings. It will be settled in a ladder match where the tag team titles will be held up in the air. The only way to win is by climbing a ladder and retrieving them. But did I also add that in ladder matches, all weapons are allowed, so chairs are included with anything one can find to damage their opponents with? Now, the game in itself was exciting to watch. I think both teams have great chemistry and understand how the others work. The young Bucks are primarily a spot-heavy team, which means big moments. They relish in the big moments like a backflip unto an opponent lying on a table in a spot, while FTR is more at the moment, traditional style wrestling, with plenty of power moves. But to break down the match, the match started with brawling; the young bucks came out cocky and confident, while the FTR looked game ready and prepared to do anything in their power to take down the bucks. Ultimately, it led them outside to the ring, where both teams met with exchanges of punches and superkicks.
The first ladder was finally brought into the match by the young bucks, who just slammed the wheeler with it after a couple of superkicks and punches. Both teams finally got creative with the ladders and started doing some crazy spots, like setting the ladder on the apron and swinging the opponent full force into it. Chairs were finally brought out, and the young bucks began to hammer the ftr and even place the wheeler in between a ladder and slam the chair until the ladder, in a way, made the wheeler look like a sandwich.
The scariest spot was where Matt Jackson was from. The bucks flew out of the ring and landed head first onto the guardrail, as well as landing through a table. A couple more chair shots and the most excellent spot came when the FTR suplex one of the bucks off the top of a ladder, landing back first onto the canvas. After a few minutes of nonstop action, the match nears its end, and FTR looks like it will win. Still, then suddenly, Jack Perry, a controversial figure in AEW due to an actual life altercation he had backstage with another wrestler, shows up and pushes the wheeler off the ladder and gets immediately arrested by security. This brings the perfect opportunity for Matt Jackson to climb the ladder and retrieve the belts. Now, this match was a solid 4, as it was pretty entertaining to watch, and no one predicted the jack-perry spot where he showed up and messed up the FTR chances of winning so that unpredictable spot was the icing on the cake. Overall, the young bucks gave an A-level performance. Noting new from their traditional routine, superkicks, and backflips, FTR showed they are a dangerous tag team that will be a mighty force in the upcoming year. Both teams represented what suitable tag team matches can be and should be, as tag team wrestling needs these types of matches to bring some light back to the division. Overall great match and I can't wait to see more from both teams and see where this story ends up.
